{THROWBACK} "raspberry beret"

Like the rest of the world, we've been mourning Prince's passing for the past week. Joyfully, however, this means that everyone has been listening to a ton of Prince music, which is perhaps the perfect way to grieve his loss.

The Prince song that for whatever reason has been playing in loops in my head is "Raspberry Beret." It must be genetic because, no lie, I ran into my mom on the way to the grocery store last week and shared this with her. Her response: "Me too! And every time I sing it in my head, I have to go to the kitchen and eat a raspberry. It's nice."

So, please take a listen to this classic and per my mother's recommendation -- it's not the worst thing to have a pint of raspberries close by as you listen.

nirvana covers in french are our jam

Well, this song has pretty much everything we love -- it's a cover AND it's in French. What more can you ask for, really?

Thank you, Freedom Fry for being the coolest and putting out this amazing cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

young the giant is forever my jam

Young The Giant has always been a pretty influential band over here at TIOJ. From "Cough Syrup" to "I Got" to "My Body," we've swooned, we've sighed, and we've jumped along to these Californian hipsters many, many times over the past five years.

Their latest single, "Amerika," is a much more nuanced, subtle, and dare we say mature offering from these gentlemen than we are used to and I couldn't be more charmed by it. Released just last week, this song has already earned a permanent spot in my summer rotation.

weekend thoughts...

Happy Friday!! Doesn't it feel like we're due for a long weekend, like, now? Anyway, we hope you make the most of this regular length weekend and enjoy plenty of sunshine!

Your Weekend Jam: I love songs about green eyeballs like mine -- just like “Green My Eyes” by Colleen Green, which is the perfect song to add to your spring road trip playlist.

TIOJ Thoughts:

The ultimate festival list -- props to Eventbrite for being local event scheduling gurus!

Your fave fictional characters would totes vote for Hillary.

The most hated man on TV is an incredible musician and I don’t know how I feel about it.

Mariah Carey had a Mariah-themed birthday party. I dig her style.

{THROWBACK} "across the universe"

Not only is the one of the prettiest covers, it's also a really cool music video. Truth be told, lyric videos can be a little weird, but not this one -- not in the slightest. So so into Candace Leca's cover of the Beatles' classic, "Across the Universe."

"are you ever gonna graduate?"

As someone's who has been in part-time grad school since 2014 and won't be done for another year yet -- Handsome Ghost's latest jam "Graduate" is really resonating with me. They bring back the electronic pop that we'll always love and pair it with the lyrics that people ask me pretty much every time I mention school.

At least summer break is soon?

trent harmon is my idol

The only things that are sure in this life are death, taxes, and American Idol. Honestly, TIOJers--who seriously thinks this is going to be the last season of the behemoth singing competition?? I mean, really.

Even though I am 99% sure Ryan Seacrest is going to pop out from behind a piano this time next year and say "J/k welcome to American Idol 2017," I got surprisingly ensnared in the farewell fanfare this season and I am obsessed with the newly-crowned winner, Trent Harmon.

Give a listen to his cover of Parson James' "Waiting Game" from the show and see why I'm so smitten with this Mississippi boy.

{PLAYLIST} allergies

If you're anything like us, allergies have taken over your sinuses and your life, you have tissues in every pocket you own, and you can't stop sneezing. The worst, we tell you. And on top of that, allergies despite this terrible wintery weather snap? The only very very slim silver lining we're holding onto is that allergies mean spring, which (god willing) means rooftops and patios are in our near future. Bless you!

Pop a Zyrtec a press play!

chance the rapper + jeremih FOREVER

I listened to SO much Chance the Rapper this past weekend as I was KonMari'ing my apartment (best decision ever, for the record) and could not get enough of his collaborations with Jerermih.

First up is Chance's remix of Jeremih's "Planes," which is literally a wish come true. I can't stand J. Cole's part in the original version of this song so Chance taking over his part is the best thing that could have happened to this almost-perfect song.

Next up is the official collaboration between the two (with an additional feature from R. Kelly) "Somewhere In Paradise." I have probably listened to this song 50 times in the past week and will never be sick of it.

weekend thoughts...

Happy Friday, you April fools! Enjoy two full days of dodging tourists on Metro, scrolling through tons of cherry blossom pictures on Instagram, and eating copious amounts of brunch food.

Your Weekend Jam: Not even a little ashamed of loving ZAYN’s BeFoUr.

TIOJ Thoughts:

Loved this podcast.

If you like Friends (obviously, you do), read this article.

Can’t get enough of Justin Williams’ flow.

Is this the end of bro country?
