{RECAP} old man canyon, the paper kites

Krista and I trekked out to Jammin' Java (and discovered it really isn't that far at all!) on Saturday night to catch Old Man Canyon and The Paper Kites. The show could be described in just a word: lovely.

We caught the end of Old Man Canyon's set, and they have so many of the things we love: long hair, beards, and quirky clothing (this time, a University of Tennessee sweatshirt).

Next up were the oh so wonderful Paper Kites! Lead singer Sam Bentley was super chatty and charming (TIOJ weaknesses, of course), and he completely won us over when he lamented wanting to tell the story behind "Bleed Confusion." Apparently, the last time The Paper Kites were in Vienna, some gentleman in the crowd yelled at Sam to just play the song... The crowd on Saturday, though, was more than encouraging in allowing the storytelling to happen. (In case you were wondering, the song is amazing.)

We of course swooned when Sam told us that "Bloom" was a love song written specifically for the "city of Virginia." I could listen to that song on repeat forever and never get tired of it ever.

The Paper Kites more than succeeded in making us feel all the feels on Saturday night -- case in point, Krista leaned over at one point and said, "They're making me very sentimental." Props to you, Paper Kites, for making the holiday season even more lovely.
